Organ-on-Chip Market Worth $631,073 thousand | MarketsandMarkets™.
The global organ-on-chip market is projected to grow from $23,285 thousand in 2024 to $631,073 thousand by 2029, driven by a robust CAGR of 38.6%. This growth forecast is based on an exhaustive analysis of market trends, pricing dynamics, patents, and industry conferences. The surge in market size is attributed to government policies aimed at reducing reliance on animal testing and innovations in biofabrication. Yet, certain challenges persist, particularly the technical difficulties associated with organ-on-chip models and the low throughput capabilities of existing technologies, which may slow the market’s overall progress.

Organ-on-chip Market Dynamics
Driver: Increasing demand for animal free testing and growing government and private institution funding
Organ-on-chip technology is being developed as a potential substitute to animal drug testing. Often drugs in the final stages of pre clinical trials fail due to differences in animal and human physiology and drug metabolism. This high attrition of potential drug candidates and ethical concerns regarding use of animal for drug testing has lead to development of organ-on-chip technology reduce reliance on animals and to improve drug toxicity testing efficacy. Use of animals for testing of cosmetic drugs is banned in Europe since 2013. In 2023, the US FDA passed Modernization Act 2.0 to reduce animal drug testing and rely on alternative drug testing methods such as organ-on-chips.
Restraint: Application of organ-on-chip technology limited to pre clinical trials
Transitioning Organ-on-Chip (OOC) technology to the clinical phase of drug development faces several restrictions such as a limited access to renewable cell sources impacting model reliability, ethical concerns regarding specific cell types like induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and challenges in accurately representing the complexity of human organs during biological scaling. The low throughput of current OOC technology affect the scalability and efficiency of the model, impeding its integration into clinical research. To address these limitations, the implementation of parallelization and automation in OOC systems, known as High Throughput OOC (HT-OOC) technology, offers a promising solution for advancing drug development beyond preclinical stages, facilitating comprehensive testing of large compound libraries to identify relevant drugs for disease pathogenesis.
Opportunity: Development of multi-organ-on-chip systems
Muti-organ-on-chip systems are developed the functions of multiple organs and inter-organ communications enabling study of drug responses and evaluate drug toxicity for various organs simultaneously. Multi-organ chips (MOCs) are used for safety assessments in the cosmetic and food industries, providing a animal free and efficient compound testing methods. In cosmetics, miniaturized versions of human skin, eyes, and relevant organs, allow for safety evaluations of ingredients and finished products without animal testing. MOCs can be developed with individual specific cells allowing companies to assess interaction of specific compounds with unique skin biology. MOCs incorporating digestive organs allow evaluation of nutrients to develop personalized and nutritious food products. These chips also offer a alternative approach to toxicity testing, replacing traditional animal models.

Challenge: Lack of standardization and low throughput of current organ-on-chip technology
The Organ-on-Chip (OOC) technology is a relatively new and complex technology and therefore faces challenges primarily due to a lack of standardization and low throughput. Standardization is crucial for ensuring consistency and reliability in OOC systems, promoting comparability across different platforms. However, the absence of agreed-upon regulations for reporting experiment findings slow down progress. Additionally, limited scalability and low throughput are also major challenges, restricting large-scale screening studies and increasing costs, making accessibility a concern for smaller research groups and startups. Efforts are underway to address these challenges by developing advanced OOC technology, focusing on designing chips with multiple compartments and integrating automated handling systems.
The organ-based model accounted for the largest share of the model type segment in overall organ-on-chip industry in 2023.
On the basis of model type, the organ-on-chip market is segmented organ-based model and disease-based model. In 2023, the organ-based model segment accounted for the largest share of the market owing to a high drug development cost and limited efficacy of animal models for drug toxicity studies. Growing interest of pharma and biotechnology companies towards a animal free drug testing approach also supports the growth of this segment.
The liver-on-chip segment dominates the organ type segment in overall organ-on-chip industry in 2023.
On the basis of organ type, the organ-on-chip market is segmented into liver, kidney, lung, heart, intestine and other organs. Liver-on-chip accounted for the largest share of the market owing to factors such as high attrition of potential drug candidates due to human-hepatocytic drug toxicity which is not detectable in animal and 2D cell cultures. Liver-on-chip models allow mimicking of human liver functions and provide more efficient drug delivery and development opportunities.
North America was the largest market for overall organ-on-chip industry in 2023 and also during the forecast period.
Geographically, the organ-on-chip market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa. The market was dominated by North America in 2023 and this dominance is anticipated to continue throughout the forecast period between 2023 and 2029. The market for organ-on-chip is expanding in the North America region as a result of factors like availability of government and private sector funding and developed organ-on-chip infrastructure.
The prominent players in the organ-on-chip market are Emulate, Inc. (US), SynVivo, Inc. (US), Nortis, Inc. (US), MIMETAS B.V. (Netherlands), TissUse GmBH (Germany), Netri (France), Insphero (Switzerland), Axosim (US), Obatala Sciences (US) among others.
Recent Developments of Organ-on-Chip Industry:
In September 2023, CN Bio Innovations Ltd (UK) and LifeNet Health LifeSciences (US) partnered to provide validated human cells for CN Bio's Organ-on-a-Chip systems.
In June 2023 TissUse GmbH (Germany) and PMI (US) entered a collaborative agreement to leverage PMI's InHALES technology along with TissUse's Multi-Organ-Chip (MOC) platform.

inspired by the manchester anon haha but do you have any tips and suggestions for visiting leeds? 🩷
I've lived here for 2 years now (!!!) but somehow I still don't really know my way around and just go to the same 5 places and use google maps to get anywhere else. it's sad. but here's some shit I love:
Grindhouse - cheap drinks, loads and loads of seats, never too full, music a reasonable volume, and they project 80s movies on the back wall. we once sat in here for 2 hours cos Stand By Me was on. one time we watched the bar staff earnestly tell a group of women on a hen do that the bar was closed and they weren't serving any more drinks, at 7:45pm. 10/10.
Rudy's - only 9 cities* in this fair nation have a Rudy's, so I'm going to keep reccing it for everyone else. perfect Neapolitan pizza. *Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Nottingham, Durham, London, York, Liverpool - if you live in one of these places and haven't been to Rudy's yet, sort it out.
Neon Cactus - go here on a Wednesday and order wings, and you'll get half price margs. lots of great Mexican scran. don't take anyone too picky or over 50, because the price for the great food and vibes is that at least one thing you order will be incorrect. but roll with it. half price margs, man.
Empire Cafe - book in advance if you want to sample the delights of Empire Cafe, cos there's like 6 tables max. everything is seasonal, changes on the daily, and is insanely delicious. if you want to experience heaven, order the steak and chips with salsa verde. there is NOTHING like it.
Stuzzi - another seasonal, small plate sort of place, but Italian. amazing food and a gorgeous restaurant. go with a big group and order one of everything.
Eat Your Greens - ANOTHER seasonal restaurant! this one is farm-to-fork and organic. I can’t speak to the quality as I haven’t actually been, but I am a frequenter of their GREENGROCER, which is MEGA. last time I think I left with natty wine, pâté, some insane tinned fish, a jar of harissa and a bag of sunset potatoes. if you like food, go here.
SARTO - fresh, handmade pasta and picky bits. another great place to go with a group and order all the starters. I had a celeriac pasta there last year that I think about on a fairly regular basis; I picked it cos it was the weirdest sounding thing on the menu and it was fucking mouthwatering. good quality and good people! and it's next door to The Wardrobe, so perfect for a pre-gig tea.
Santiago Bar - like Grindhouse (alternative, casual) but the music is louder and you'll find yourself doing tequila shots at 1am and screaming along to, like, Don Broco. it's the best.
Blue Collar Boys - as a rule I hate 'vintage' clothes shops (overpriced, ugly, everything is XXS), but this place seems to specialise solely in American t-shirts and sweatshirts from the 90s in exactly my size, and everything is £10. this is amazing and a huge bargain if you find something like vintage Wranglers and a Playboy bomber jacket (£20, my wife) but not so amazing or a bargain if you find 3 t-shirts with holes in (£30, me). we've never been without finding shit we love. they only open on random weekends, and they always seem to have more stuff than they could possibly ever sell. it's a freaky vintage alternate universe.
The Corn Exchange - a big gorgeous ol' building full of little businesses. vintage, handmade, tattoos, coffee, jewellery, independent brands, yarn, shoes, a barbers, a bookshop, they've got it all. very easy to spend £100 and 6 hours. every so often they have a market on the bottom floor. perfect tiny representation of Leeds: quirky, independent, delicious, cool.
Silver's Deli - this is a 9-minute train ride away in Bramley (my ends!) but has become THEE buzzy foodie spot recently. go on a sunny saturday morning (cos you will probably have to sit outside) and order the everything sandwich. thank me later. if they have scotch eggs or sausage rolls on, I beseech you, order both. and if you want the sunday special prepare to get there at 11 and fight.
Against the Grain - if you've come to Bramley for Silver's, you may as well trundle 10 minutes up the road and visit the best bar in Leeds. cosy, casual, full of locals, hidden in Swinnow Mills. it's a sit-around-and-chat-to-people sort of place, with bonus charcuterie boards AND a pizza van on weekends. we are here A LOT, because Gray's Salon and Rose and Thorn Tattoo are both in the Mill, and we give them all our money. oh! and dog friendly. sooo many dogs.
Project House/Galleria - if you've gotten the train out to Bramley for Silver's and ATG, jump on the 72 back to town and get off at Project House to eat MORE food. Galleria is a great place to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Project House has EVERYTHING (depending on the day). yoga! gigs! vintage fairs! a bi-annual tattoo convention meets makers market with food vendors called Hand of Glory! check what's on and head on down to support local!
Kirkstall Bridge Inn - another one local(ish) to me, but worth travelling out of town for; a PROPER pub (i.e. no tv, no sports, no shite) that does roasts upstairs and lets dogs in downstairs. outdoor seating right by the canal, and every so often they put something on and the car park turns into a tiny festival. Kirkstallpalooza is a highlight. great place to finish a nice canal walk (who am I?!).
tl;dr sorry that this is obnoxiously long, I love Leeds

little cries echo from the human swindle had caught, he eyes them through the large Cube he had caught them in debating what he should do with them. Their eyes linger on him wide as if pleading for him to let them go. He wasn't sure how the human had gotten there but he was fascinated by their smaller form
Swindle peered down at his unusual catch through the translucent edges of his containment cube, rotors whirring thoughtfully. The tiny creature writhed within, clawing vainly at the barrier as strange cries emanated from its primitive vocalizer.
How curious that such a fragile thing could have wound up aboard his ship. The Decepticons had little need nor patience for biology beneath their notice. Still, as a businessman, Swindle appreciated any commodity's potential value - and rarity commanded the highest prices on the black market, where only the boldest dared to deal.
"Now now, no need for that racket," he said, tone placating yet laced with calculation. The human stilled at his words, wide optics locking onto Swindle's face with an expression...pleading? Most odd.
Lowering the cube, Swindle gazed within, scanning hastily. Basic carbon-based, bipedal, underdeveloped neuronal network...but sentient nevertheless. His grasping servos gentled upon feeling its erratic organic pulse. Perhaps this catch deserved study before rushing to market. Potential discoveries could revise alien worth beyond raw material.
They curl up on themself, eyes darting around as they watch swindle check his warehouse stock. Small trembles rack their small frame as they try to make themself even smaller. As Swindle surveyed his stockpiles, peripherals noted movement within the containment cube set before him. Curious, he knelt for closer investigation, crimson optics peering through the translucent barrier.
Within, the tiny human had drawn into a quivering ball, trembling violently as large optics darted about the warehouse in panicked disorientation. Clearly, its primitive systems found the vastness overwhelming. How fragile such an alien organism must seem without protective armor, weaponry or even adequate size to impose any will.
Lifting the cube. The human merely shrank tighter, as though hoping invisibility might shield its vulnerable form. An interesting survival mechanism, yet ineffective among their kind. Its continual shaking set oddly on Swindle's sensors.
Crooking a digit, Swindle nudged the cube gently, awaiting response to stimulate and assess this odd creature's potential. What solutions might it improvise under pressure? Fortune favoured the bold and clever, after all.
They shout as they tumble out on the table. Their eyes go wide as they try to bolt across the metal table. Neatly tumbling over the edge. He's curious about the tag on their leg, it held the information on where the human was from, where they were going and what their purpose was for.
As the tiny human tumbled from its confinement, Swindle's keen optics tracked each jerking motion broadcasted by its tag chip and primitive garments. Clearly disoriented amongst the warehouse's cavernous machinery, the thing bolted recklessly across the table, servos scrabbling for purchase on the slick metal.
A sharp gasp escaped them as momentum carried the fragile body over the edge, sending it plummeting toward the unforgiving ground far below. An unfortunate demise would ruin this rare find before its potential could be explored.
Snatching the thing from the air, Swindle brought it close for examination, ignoring its frantic pounding against his braced digits. There - the identification chip embedded in its vest offered tantalising insights into origins and intended fates of this hitherto unknown species.
The human squirms under Swindle's grip as the bot checks them from damage or injuries, moving them close to make sure they aren't broken. they whimper out. Swindle's optics narrow as he processes the information on the human's leg tag.
A chuckle escapes Swindle's vocalizer as he holds the squirming human firmly to the table, his grip unyielding.
The information on their leg tag filters across his processor.
Species: homo-sapien (human)
Planet of origin: Terra 1, Earth
Destination: Vos, Cybertron
Buyer: offlined
Other information: 'exotic pet', bid off to the highest buyer or keep them. I don't care.
"Earth, eh?" he murmured, scanning the encoded lines rapidly. "A long way off course, meatbag. But who said the black market honours authorities' designs, hmm?" The human writhed uselessly, but clever optics observed its every microexpression carefully.
As swindle downloads the language file attached he can finally understand the small squeaks and chirps from them. His audials twitch at the implications, his curiosity piqued by the concept of an 'exotic pet' from Earth being brought to Vos, the city of seekers. It seemed that someone on Cybertron had quite the fascination with organic, soft-bodied creatures. As he downloads the language file attached, the squeaks and chirps they emit start to make sense to Swindle. Their plea for freedom.
"Please let me go," they whimper, their voice carrying a mix of fear and desperation.
Swindle's optics flicker as He leans in closer, his tone low and contemplative. "Now, why would I do that, little human? You see, you've been bought and sold, and it looks like I'm the one in possession of you now. You're quite the valuable commodity, and I must say, I'm rather curious to see just what makes you so 'exotic.'"
Swindle's grip tightens slightly, ensuring they couldn't struggle out of his gasp. He can't help but enjoy the power he holds over them, relishing the control he has in this situation. "Now, don't you worry," he muses, a sly grin playing on his face. "I'll take good care of you, my little 'exotic pet.' Perhaps we can find some... mutually beneficial arrangement."
As the human's plea lingers in the air, Swindle's mind races with possibilities, calculating the potential profits and leverage this situation could bring. For now, they were at his mercy, and he intended to make the most of it. They try fighting against his hold but its useless, only making him chuckle as he holds them to the table.
'Exotic pet' could mean a lot of things and Swindle was more curious now just what had been intended for the human, but for a human to be set to Vos, the city of seekers he had a pretty good idea. Some Cybertronian had a kink for organics. soft bodies. It was the dead seekers lose now.
Swindle's grip tightens as the human futile struggles against his hold. Their attempts only serve to amuse him, a chuckle slipping past his vocalizer as he maintains his firm grasp, preventing any chance of escape.
A smirk curls across Swindle's face as he contemplates the missed opportunity for the deceased seeker. They had lost out on what could have been a valuable acquisition, but now the human was within his grasp. "Looks like you're quite the prize," Swindle comments, his voice laced with amusement. "I wonder what makes you so special, hmm?"
Their smaller frame lit a fire in Swindle. "What do you want from me? " they whimpered out in the most delightful way. They lean into his servos, they squirm as his digits Begin removing clothes. Swindle intended to test drive them. See what all the fuss was about.
A sly grin spreads across Swindle's face. He takes a moment to savour their squirming, their body responding to his touch. Swindle intends to explore every inch of their being, to push boundaries and test their limits, all while satisfying his own curiosity and desires.
As their clothes fall away and their vulnerability is exposed, Swindle's optics gleam with anticipation. they whine out as Swindle runs his glossa against their skin, arching under his touch as he takes in the sweet taste of their skin, Swindle smirks, savouring the taste of their skin against his glossa. His fingers trace teasing patterns along their body, revelling in the shivers and arches it elicits from them. The sweetness that lingers on their skin reminds him of the finest energon wine or a well-aged high-grade.
"Mmm, you taste as delightful as the finest concoctions," Swindle purrs, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "You're like a rare vintage, my dear, a delectable treat I can't resist." He continues to explore their body with his lips and tongue, leaving a trail of tantalising sensations in his wake. Swindle revels in the power he holds over them, the ability to elicit such pleasurable responses from them.
His hands roam, caressing and teasing, seeking out the most sensitive spots. Swindle's lips curl into a mischievous grin as he trails his glossa between their legs slowly lapping against their skin. He revels in the sounds of their pleasure, the way their breath hitches and their body arches under his touch. His servos roam with purpose, gliding along their curves and tracing patterns As his lips trail lower, Swindle's tongue flicks out to taste the sensitive spots he discovers along the way. He savours the delicious moans that escape their lips, the sweet melody of their pleasure.
"You're so responsive," Swindle whispers, his voice laced with a mix of satisfaction and hunger. With a final, lingering kiss, Swindle pulls back slightly, his gaze filled with a predatory gleam. He knows that he has them right where he wants them, teetering on the edge of overwhelming desire.
"Now, my lovely, it's time to truly indulge," Swindle says, his voice low and sultry. "
His mouth continues to explore their body, his lips and tongue leaving a trail of heat and sensation in their wake. Swindle's hands roam, seeking out every sensitive spot, every place that elicits those delicious reactions. His lips press against their leg as mischief flickers in his optics.
They lay there shuttering slightly before Swindle takes them further into his mouth. They squeal out as Swindle swallows them. " hey! Let me out!!" They shout and it only makes swindlers chuckle. They cry out again as his tubing slowly drops them down into his tank making an echoing thump as the land. They try to pull themself back up but only get stuck before they land back in the small chamber of his tanks their naked form shivers slightly.
"Now, now, there's no need to get all worked up," Swindle taunts, his voice smooth and sly. He relishes in the control he has over the situation. He takes a moment to appreciate the sound of their voice echoing within his tanks, a reminder of their helplessness.
"I'll make sure to take good care of you. After all, you're quite the valuable asset." With a satisfied chuckle, Swindle returns his focus to his work. The human squirms and moves around in the tight confines of Swindle's tank, banging their fist against the inside, It echo's lightly. “Let me out, Let me out !” Swindle's grin widens as he hears the muffled sounds of struggle within his fuel tank. The echo of their fist banging against the walls only adds to his amusement, fueling his desire for control.
"Oh, you're quite the feisty one, aren't you?" Swindle taunts, his voice laced with a mix of amusement and superiority. "But I'm afraid all that struggling won't get you anywhere. You're securely locked away, completely at my mercy."
He takes a moment to savour the sounds of their frustration, "You might as well settle in" Swindle continues, his voice dripping with smugness. "Perhaps if you behave, I'll consider letting you out," Swindle teases, his voice filled with false promise. "But for now, you're mine to keep."

Wrapped in Sunshine
Katsuki stood by the campfire airing out the bedrolls. He hung them on a nearby tree branch and crawled back into the tent, wiping out the dirt that had gathered on the floor. As he was organizing their belongings, Katsuki heard heavy footsteps padding toward the campsite at a rapid pace. He poked his head out of the tent entrance to see Eijirou bounding into camp, stopping just shy of the fire.
Eijirou was in full dragon form, red scales glistening in the daylight. His large talons dug into the earth and in his maw hung the limp body of a giant boar. Blood dripped from his chin, and he released the beast. It fell with a heavy thud on the ground in front of the tent and Katsuki stared up at him wide-eyed.
He climbed out of the enclosure, poking the dead animal with his foot, then looked to Eijirou who was sitting upright in anticipation. “What the hell is this?” he asked.
Food for my sunshine, Eijirou replied telepathically. He licked his mouth clean before his body began to shrink, returning from dragon to human. “I thought we could feast,” he said, once he was able to speak in human tongue.
“Ei, this thing is massive. Even if we smoke the meat, it’s too much to carry.” Katsuki chided him. The boar had to be at least three hundred pounds. They would never eat it all and the nearest village was twenty kilometers away. They would have to fly the meat to market.
“But you always say we need more meat.” Eijirou looked and sounded defeated. He kicked his bare foot at the ground, head dipping so that they were no longer making eye contact. He looked like a wounded badger, and for all of Katsuki’s talk, he hated seeing animals (and Eijirou) wounded.
Katsuki sighed. He folded his arms across his chest and inspected the boar. Eijirou had managed a clean kill. If they skinned it properly, they could manage a hefty bag of coins from the remains. The boar was a victory, but also a giant pain in the ass. “You’re right,” he said after a long pause. “We do need more meat, and with a boar this size, we’ll make a profit.”
“You’re not mad?” asked Eijirou, looking hopeful. Crimson eyes glimmered and his cheeks eagerly touched his eyes. The lines of slowly forming crow’s feet wrinkled in delight as he scooped Katsuki up into a bear hug.
“I’m not mad, ya’ big oaf.” Katsuki let himself be hugged, leaning into the touch, and resting his head on Eijirou’s shoulder. “Now help me clean the beast before it expires.”
“Absolutely!” Eijirou held Katsuki at an arm’s length, planting a kiss on his lips before setting him down and drawing his claws out to skin the animal.
***
Katsuki stood next to the river tapping his foot on the ground. His hands rested on his hips, and he was eyeing Eijirou skeptically. “Tell me again how this happened?”
Eijirou sat in the river as water began to wash away layers of dirt from his body. His usually glimmering scales were tarnished. His claws were cracked and chips, the undersides thick with mud and dried blood. He had come back to camp in his half-human form, wings stretched out behind him, face coated in filth, and a handful of raw, uncut gemstones in his satchel.
Eijirou scratched at his scaley face, blushing in the odd way that dragons did. Their armored skin did not flush red, but it was still clear to Katsuki when the dragonborn was embarrassed. “Well, I uh... I heard about this diamond mine nearby. I wanted to get Sunshine something as bright as you are. They make rainbows in the light. Have you seen? If Sunshine doesn’t like them, I can take them back. There’s a ruby deposit to the north. Would Sunshine like rubies instead?”
Katsuki sighed in exasperation and shook his head. “Diamonds are fine, but don’t go digging by yourself. It’s dangerous.” He pulled a rag out of their bag and stepped into the water to begin wiping Eijirou’s body down so that it was free of dirt.
“I promise!” Eijirou smiled happily, his large mouth drawn back into a snarl. His guttural laugh sent ripples through the water and his breath was hot on Katsuki’s skin. The heat dried the sweat on his brow, and he dipped the rag in water to dampen it.
Katsuki took extra care on Eijirou’s claws, using a twig to dig the dirt out from underneath each one. “We’ll have to file your nails once you change back. You could get hurt if you let them stay cracked like this.”
“Okay, Sunshine.” Eijirou agreed, pleased to be groomed by his lover.
With a tired smile and a sigh, Katsuki shook his head and continued to clean his mate. He had grown accustomed to the pet name ages ago. While Katsuki wasn’t a fan of it at first, Eijirou insisted it was because his hair was as warm and golden as the sun’s rays, giving life to the earth—the same way Katsuki gave life to Eijirou. It was disgustingly sappy, but he didn’t have the heart to tell Eijirou to stop calling him “sunshine,” after that.
***
Things were beginning to take a strange turn and Katsuki knew something wasn’t adding up. First the boar, then the diamonds, and now Eijirou had gone out of his way to drag Katsuki to a hoard of ogres. He said it had been a while since Katsuki’s last fight and he knew how bad he had been itching for some action. It was true, but still strange. Usually, Eijirou was a pacifist, only engaging in battle if necessary. It wasn’t like him to actively seek out combat just to appease Katsuki.
Katsuki took a blow to the face, splitting his lip. He grinned wildly, wiping at the blood that was beginning to trickle down with the back of his hand. It smeared across his chin like war paint, and he rushed forward, sword poised for the kill. He thrust the blade into the ogre’s chest, then pulled free, smiling victoriously as the monster landed face-first into the dirt.
As Eijirou finished off the others, swiping his large talons across the battlefield, Katsuki began to wipe his sword clean of the carnage that had just ensued. Eijirou bounded over to him, licking his face with that giant dragon tongue of his. Katsuki smiled, petting his mate on the snout. “Yeah, yeah. This was fun. Thanks.”
Eijirou preened, a low rumbling rippled its way through his body. He nuzzled his snout against Katsuki’s cheek, soliciting a laugh from the blond. “Okay, okay. So, why did you want to go ogre hunting anyway?”
Eijirou whined in lieu of an answer.
“Not talking, eh?” Katsuki wiped at the blood on his lip with his thumb and gave Eijirou a onceover. “We should get cleaned up and see if there’s any loot worth taking.” Eijirou nodded his large head, then shifted back into a human.
“Sure thing, Sunshine.”
Katsuki pursed his lips, but shook it off, moving to the ogre he had defeated.
***
While Eijirou slept, Katsuki packed his bag to head off on a solo mission to the dragon village where Eijirou hailed from. He wanted answers and his mate was not talking. Every request to get answers was met with silence or a distraction and he was not one for being toyed with. There was something going on and he would figure it out.
As his dragon snored softly in their tent, curled up in their bedrolls and blankets, Katsuki stepped into the forest. It would take half a day to walk to the dragon village alone. Normally, Eijirou would fly them there in about an hour, but he couldn’t risk the dragon taking them on a detour or something instead of to his home. If anyone knew why Katsuki's mate was acting strangely, it would be his people. He slung the bag over his shoulder and started off on his journey in the wee hours of the morning.
The sun had yet to rise, making navigation through the forest difficult, but Katsuki had lived there long enough that he knew the area like the back of his hand. He just had to turn left at the old oak tree and then head south until he reached the clearing. Easy. At least, it would have been if the oak tree hadn’t been felled in a recent storm.
By the time Katsuki reached the dragon village, he was exhausted and dripping in sweat. His water had run out, and his rations were painfully low. He had packed for four hours, not seven. On the opposite side of the village Eijirou’s sworn brother, Tetsutetsu, was chopping wood outside his small cabin. Katsuki came to a stop a few meters away from him, hands gripping his knees as he caught his breath. Tetsutetsu dropped the axe he was wielding and rushed to Katsuki’s side.
“Bakugou? Are you okay?”
Katsuki waved him off. “Fine, fine. Can I get some water?”
Tetsutetsu nodded and ran to the well, pulling up the pail and filling the canteen on his side. He dropped the pail back into the well and returned to Katsuki’s side. “Here. Drink up.” He offered Katsuki the water, which he took gratefully. Once Katsuki had sufficiently drank down the water, Tetsutetsu took the canteen back and eyed concerned. “Where’s Ei? Is everything okay?”
Katsuki nodded, taking a seat on the ground. “I came alone. He’s fine or at least I think he is.”
“What do you mean?” Tetsutetsu took a seat beside him, crossing his legs and leaning his elbow on his knee.
“He’s been acting strange lately—showering me in gifts more than usual, taking me to fight monsters when he hates fighting, keeping secrets—it’s not like him. As a fellow dragon, I was hoping you could help.”
Tetsutetsu blinked and gave Katsuki a sniff. His nose wrinkled and scooched a few centimeters away. “Oof. That’s strong.”
“What?” asked Katsuki, confused.
“Ei’s scent on you. It’s stronger than normal, which makes sense since you just explained that he’s courting you.”
Katsuki’s face went white, his mouth dry. “Courting?”
“You know dragons mate for life?” asked Tetsutetsu.
Katsuki nodded slowly.
“Well, he must think it’s time for the bonding ritual or marriage as you humans refer to it. Though, a draconic bonding ritual is way more intense than any human marriage.”
Courting... bonding... Katsuki was embarrassed to not have realized it on his own. He studied dragons for years before meeting Eijirou. Now that it had been pointed out to him, it was completely obvious. He rose to his feet, body still tired from the long journey, but he needed to get back before Eijirou worried.
“Leaving already?”
“Yeah,” he replied.
Tetsutetsu got to his feet as well, giving Katsuki another onceover. “I’d offer you a ride home, but given the situation, I don’t want Ei coming for my head.”
“It’s fine,” Katsuki assured him. “I got here on my own, I can get home on my own.”
Tetsutetsu clicked his tongue and nodded. “Let me get you some supplies at least. I can’t send you back without any food or water.”
Katsuki didn’t argue. He was grateful to have a full reserve of water for the long walk home.
“You know,” Tetsutetsu started as he fetched the pail from the well once more, “the two of you should move back to the village. I know Itsuka would like to see you more too.”
Katsuki chuckled softly, taking the canteen, and shoving it in his bag. “Maybe. Tell them we’ll visit soon.”
He waved farewell to Tetsutetsu and headed back through town toward the forest he and Eijirou called home. Katsuki smiled to himself, thinking about all the things Eijirou had done lately to earn his favor. How long had Eijirou been planning this? Knowing him, from the day they met on the mountainside when Katsuki challenged him to a battle. Stupid lizard, he thought affectionately.
Katsuki was only halfway home when he caught sight of large red wings in the sky overhead. They eclipsed the sun, bathing him in shadows until Eijirou landed in front of him. He rushed to Katsuki, taking him in his arms and checking him over. “Are you okay? I woke up and you were gone. I couldn’t find you anywhere and you’ve been—” He sniffed, face blanching. “Why do you smell like Tetsu?”
“I needed to ask him something,” said Katsuki, patting Eijirou on the shoulder and freeing himself from the dragon’s grasp.
“Why?”
Katsuki shrugged. “No reason.” he replied, purposefully being coy. Two could play at that game. “It’s getting late, and I need to visit my parents before we return home. Do you mind?”
Eijirou pursed his lips pouting but huffed in defeat. “Yeah. Let’s go. I miss Sunshine’s kin. I would love to see what MawMaw and PawPaw are up to.”
It was disgustingly sweet how close Eijirou was with his parents. Katsuki loathed it, but he couldn’t complain that his parents loved his mate. It made life easier, even if they did spend a disgusting amount of time gossiping when together. Eijirou transformed and Katsuki climbed on his back, situating himself as the base of Eijirou’s neck before they took flight.
Flying together was always his favorite. It was invigorating having the vast sky expand around them, soaring through the clouds, having his skin kissed by precipitation. He loved it.
Arriving home took no time at all when Eijirou flew them there. Katsuki dismounted from Eijirou’s neck just outside the village and they walked toward his parent’s home together. Mitsuki and Masaru could keep Eijirou busy while Katsuki did what he needed to do.
The front door opened and Mitsuki walked outside, arms spread wide. “What a surprise. There’s my favorite son.” She hugged Eijirou, looking at Katsuki teasingly.
Normally, he would make some sort of snide comment, but for now, he would ignore it. “Hey hag, where’s my trunk?”
She looked at him, still hugging Eijirou and nodded in the direction of the shed. “I’m not sure what you need that old thing for, but it’s out back.” Mitsuki’s nose twitched as she let go of Eijirou. “Child, you need a bath. When was the last time you used soap? These clothes are filthy.” She began to steer Eijirou toward the house despite his protests. While he could easily put a stop to her dragging him away, Eijirou followed with a pout on his face.
When they were out of sight, Katsuki made his way to the shed, opening the window to let the evening light in. The trunk was coated in a layer of dust. He blew at the dust, coughing as it filled the air, and opened the trunk. Katsuki wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but the best gift had to be within the confines of the wooden box. All his best kept treasures were there, and Eijirou deserved the best. As Katsuki sifted through the trunk, he realized how much clutter he had collected over the years. Many of the items needed disposal, but tucked in the corner amongst animal teeth, scraps of fabric, and odd stones from the lands he visited, were two items Katsuki thought to be perfect for proposing. Everything was a competition, even courting.
He pulled out the skull of a griffin from his first adventure with Eijirou. It was customary to slay a beast for your betrothed, much like how Eijirou had brought Katsuki the boar. He set it down neatly on the floor and smoothed out ratty orange cloth that he had also procured from the trunk. His parents had said it was the blanket he had been swaddled in as a newborn. It was a relic of his past and something Eijirou would treasure for a lifetime.
Katsuki shut the trunk and scooped up the skull and blanket, closing the shed window before walking out of the small building. He started to head for the house, surprised to see Eijirou sitting in the yard picking flowers. The dragon was twisting the stems, tongue sticking out in concentration, as he formed a flower crown. Katsuki laughed to himself, coming to a stop in front of his mate. “Done bathing already?”
Eijirou looked up, eyes widening. “MawMaw agreed it could wait until after dinner if we spent the night. We can spend the night, right? PawPaw is making stew.” Eijirou loved Masaru’s stew (mostly because of the meat and potatoes).
Katsuki nodded. “Yeah, we can stay.” He dug the toe of his boot into the ground, fidgeting with the gifts behind his back. “Ei, can you stand up?”
“Sure, Sunshine.” Eijirou smiled, crimson eyes glittering in the evening light. “I made you a crown of sunshine flowers,” he said, placing the dandelions atop Katsuki’s head.
Katsuki sighed, smiling softly at his far too sweet lover. “I have something for you too.”
“For me?” Eijirou’s wings beat wildly behind his back in anticipation.
“Yeah.” Katsuki wet his lips, moving his arms to the front of his body, blanket, and skull in tow. “Do you remember that griffin we fought after we first met?”
“I do.”
Katsuki gulped, suddenly nervous. He lifted his shaking hands, resting the skull atop Eijirou’s head, a crown for each of them. “A crown for my dragon king.”
“I’m not—”
“You’re mine,” Katsuki assured him, now holding out the blanket. “This was the cloth I was wrapped in when I was born. It’s a piece of me that will always be a part of you.”
“Katsuki.” Eijirou’s eyes began to water, and he sniffled. “What are you doing?”
“You were courting me, right?” Eijirou nodded. Katsuki grinned. “So, now I’m courting you. Will you have me forever?”
“Always,” replied Eijirou, pulling him in for a kiss.

A Case for Trans Pride Flag Corsets~
if we had known we could greatly alleviate our dysphoria over having an organic body by wearing a chest-supporting corset that would complement our HRT by giving our torso a solid structured feel and also making our rounded on estrogens chest feel more and look more solid we would have done this years ago and it probably would have some a lot of anxiety and pain especially in various low points in our life related to gender stuff. a lot of our headmates are very happy. We in part are within the category of a trans gal who did and does want HRT and can appreciate the resulting body softness but would really rather be made of metals and/or be able to wear armor on a daily basis so-
Just putting this out there for any other inorganic or hardened matter therian and/or multiplicity people, creatures, and entities and especially to fellow mechanoidly inclined beings across the gender spectrum: if you're disappointed with the healthcare options at present for affirmation of selves and like us cannot currently afford EVA foam stuff and/or would have to deal with paint chipping that you wouldn't be able to just fix at or near home, and are frustrated you can't go through daily life in half plate, corsets are good relatively much more affordable way to go. the ribbed boning aspects hug the body really firmly and it does wonders for back support, I've never felt more ready from how I dress at any point in my life thus far before or after HRT to leap into action and stride through the needs and wants of life with gusto, and just also feel so happy (being on bicalutimide instead of spironolactone is also helping we personally no longer have to deal with side effects from hormone blockers). we would suggest to other folks who are also fat that getting ones with side lace along with the back lace will help to get it to fit around your body, having only back lace is more difficult. (and of course going by gender neutral letter sizing rather than gender divided numbers is a lot easier to navigate for shape, in this respect for trans people, gender expansive people in general, and a lot of people whose body types and proportions are not kept in mind by a lot of the clothing industry) also, if you are flatchested and like it that way or want to bind your chest, there are corsets for that! We will also say that if the options online or sold around you don't have what you need there are places that will custom-make corsets.
Lastly, we have not been able to find corsets in pride flag colors for anything other than the rainbow flag (and not a lot) , can't find a lesbian or sapphic flag one (somewhat ironic, don't you think), or bisexual or achillean or ase, or a trans or nonbinary flag one (we did find a pink corset with roses of blue and pink with white leaves but it does not have side lace so unlike our other corset we can't wear it with all the back lace in due to our size), so while it is something we've noted to eventually ask someone to make one- this is just an idea to put out there, there is a market for that kind of thing.
We think if more people in the 21st century knew that corsets can in fact be more comfortable than bras if you're willing to sacrifice back bending ability while wearing them (it's better to bend with your legs anyway, we're kind of fucked both ways on that front currently but the legs less so) then more people would be using them
-one other note if you ever get them dirty with anything elephant stone soap is very useful (never machine wash a corset, spot cleaning and airing it out after is enough)
#corset#gender journey#nonhumanity#plurality#multiplicity#robots#hi y'all#seriously was kind of shocked by the fact there arent lesbian or trans flag corsets#the myth of 'corsets are dangerous and bad' is such a lie thanks patriarchy#like honestly if i'm going to weaken my chest muscle tissue by wearing chest support may as well get back support too#euphoria#trans#chest binding

The Red Shoes
2/15/2259 06:34 a.m. EST Kei Nakamura—billionaire tech giant and mastermind behind Global Omnium Solutions—was announced dead this morning. Found unresponsive in his hotel room while visiting Syneaux on business, Nakamura’s cause of death remains unknown. City police say further testing is necessary.
Nakamura’s entire existence summarized in less than ten words—squashed between hyphens no less. It’s a blasé, lazy synopsis for a man only known on the outside for his mind and his money. Beneath the three-sentence announcement is a picture of the man himself in a sharp, three-piece business suit.
If there were even an ounce of journalistic integrity in the article’s author, the truth would have served as a salacious, clickbait-fueled piece amongst the rapid-fire articles surrounding the billionaire’s death.
Kei Nakamura was a man chasing a high. It didn’t matter where it came from or how much it cost. At the end of a needle, at the bottom of a bottle, beneath the sheets of a stranger. Twice at the edge of a blade and once on the firing end of a pistol. Every rush of adrenaline and extra dose of dopamine was his reason for living. There weren’t enough hours in the day to drink it all in. But you knew all that, right Cypher?
That’s right. You’re just the same—on a desperate, carnal search for the greatest highs that life has to offer. You’ll try anything. Legal or not; dodging the cops is part of the overall experience.
I know all about you, Cypher. Your fortune came from a trust fund after you barely passed primary school. You knew you’d never have to work, so why put in the effort? I doubt I would have, either. Then, your listless existence led you down the rabbit hole of the deep web; chasing a rumor that began as little more than a murmur in a chatroom.
The Red Shoes.
Strange name for a neural chip, you thought. Someone mentioned it stemmed from some ancient fairy tale. But that didn’t matter. Designed by Nakamura himself, The Red Shoes is a goldmine to those who can get their hands on it and a dream come true for people like you. Once inserted, the fabled chip starts small, nearly invisible changes in the brain with exceptional results. No longer will the user need a full night’s sleep or three meals a day. No wasting time on trivial bodily functions that stand between you and the rush.
Just hours after insertion, the mind accesses energy reserves from excess fat and tissue—nothing precious, of course. It rewires your organs to metabolize chemicals like alcohol and amphetamines faster and more efficiently while still giving you the stamina to keep moving. The pleasurable side effects of consumption will linger without the fear of a crash.
To you, The Red Shoes was the ultimate creation for a man who jumped from rave to rave, bed to bed, needle to bottle to needle. You didn’t care how much it cost or whose hands it passed through. Nakamura only made ten chips, and you had to have it.
The FDA was not happy to discover another unapproved chip circulating on the market. So the nickname changed every time you looked. ‘Ruby Slippers’ was one unimaginative solution; my personal favorite was ‘Fruit by the Foot.’ But I digress.
Beyond the homebrew encryption protecting the data itself, each chip was hand-numbered and signed with a code that was impossible to perfectly recreate. It didn’t stop people from trying, and you yourself were victim to a handful of very expensive dummy chips.
But when the FBI started cracking down, a lot more people were willing to part with their tiny piece of heaven. You found one from an inside man at Global Omnium Solutions—an exorbitant amount of money changed hands and your package was delivered by a man in a mask.
Your heart hammered as you opened the unremarkable box and held the thumb-sized tech in your palm. Chip number six. Just like your birth month.
You installed it an hour ago, Cypher. What the hell are you waiting for?
Jacket in hand, you head out the door. Through the packed streets of New Chennai, you weave between corporate suits and neon lights. Down the main road to the A-Line bullet train, where you swipe your wallet and search out a place in the car to stand. Nakamura’s face appears on every screen on the train, scrolling words beneath the image announcing his death. Is it just your imagination, or are your senses more alert? The sounds are clearer, and the colors brighter. Surely you wouldn’t have heard the television with such clarity over the din of passengers before. Just a little longer, and the truth will arrive.
The train’s second stop is the Green District, where you take your leave. A place avoided by esteemed members of society with luxuries to lose. Swarmed instead by the drivel who seek the unmentionable. You’re one of them, though you seem to think you’re above the rest of the rabble that shows their faces in the Green District.
I assure you. You are not.
Into the Haze you step. Down two flights of stairs, a quick flash of your card to a bouncer standing rigid outside a door lit by a single bulb, and you gain access to one of New Chennai’s notorious clubs. The pulse of electronic music and the throng of those moving with its rhythm assaults your ears. A young woman with glowing purple eyes and teal blue hair appears before you, taking your wrist and pulling you close. You recognize her, though her name escapes you. She reaches into her jeans pocket, then presses a folded paper envelope into your palm with a wry smile before guiding you into the mob.
No words are needed, and none would be heard anyway. Sliding your thumb beneath the fold, you toss the envelope’s contents onto your tongue and wait, letting the glowing-eyed girl lead you closer to the stage.
You’re barely twenty steps into the club before the first rush hits. An immediate sensation of invincibility. The music throbs in your veins, and the touch of your partner’s fingertips summon goosebumps on your wrist. When she turns and aligns herself to your body, the overwhelming scents of strawberry daiquiri and off-brand perfume coat your nostrils and tongue. The heat of her chest against yours is intoxicating.
Then the second rush washes over you.
You can’t remember ever feeling this good. Pulling the girl closer, you run a hand through her hair and the other down the small of her back. You’re one with her, the music, this crowd. Emotions flicker through you in time with the strobe lights—one second you’re laughing, then whispering sweet nothings into her ear, then find your mouth on her throat.
While the new implant finishes distributing the drugs to your bloodstream, its lesser-known function executes, scanning the neural networks of those within two meters of you. It recognizes and replicates the highest levels of dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins in the vicinity and then transmits them to you.
Even you didn’t know this about The Red Shoes. You gasp against her skin, and your fingers dig into her back. For some, the experience would have knocked them senseless. But not for you. A man that’s pushed himself to every edge takes it in stride. Sweat drips down your back, and you find yourself responding to the slightest stimulus—the infinitesimal breeze wafting from the air conditioning, your partner’s breath on your cheek, the folds of fabric gliding across your chest. In her glowing eyes you’re sure you can make out the answer to life’s most profound questions, so long as you stare a little longer…
Time no longer exists for you. Only this feeling—God himself couldn’t create a purer sensation. You don’t know how long you’ve been dancing; your phone claims nearly three hours have passed when the young woman takes your hand and guides you to the back of the club. You’re devoid of fatigue or aches, and your energy remains at an all-time high. Even after the curtain is drawn and you sink into the arms of the violet-eyed woman, your stamina reserves are hardly touched.
She falls asleep, but you’re far from finished. You dress and make your way back through the club, deciding a change of scenery would do you good.
When you return to the streets, you brace for the beginnings of a crash. The dip in emotion, the sudden exhaustion. But it never comes. You laugh, dancing your way between the late-night stragglers. Into the Last Drop you spill, finding a new array of lights and music. You buy a drink and slide two crisp hundred-dollar bills across the bar with a bottlecap. Sweat drips from the glass and your back as the bottlecap returns, filled with tiny pills. Swallowing them and your whiskey in one gulp, your search for a new partner is quickly rewarded.
You were exactly the kind of person The Red Shoes was made for, Cypher.
In addition to the goods from the bar, your new partner places a thin square of paper on your tongue. As it melts, sounds take on corporeal shapes while lights shape themselves around the girl’s body. You howl with ecstasy, and she laughs, wrapping her four arms around your neck.
The club moves with you, bending and weaving to your whim with a flick of your wrist. Some of its patrons no longer look human, but you’ve conjured your own safety net around yourself and your dance partner. You’re immortal.
This night never has to end, and you refuse to let it. The crash never comes, and the dip never happens. The hallucinations fade, but the energy remains. The sun rises as you make your way to your fifth club. A quick check in the mirror, and you’re elated to see your pupils are normal, the usual bags beneath your eyes are missing, and you no longer wear a flush of exhaustion. When your gaze slides to your hair, you notice the dark roots have turned a brilliant white. Tugging at your bangs, you lean in for a closer look.
When you blink, the color is back to normal. Just your imagination, you assure yourself. You move on.
Magazine stands shilling the morning news hold papers with Kei Nakamura plastered across the front page. Global Omnium Solutions is suddenly on the coals for hidden tech created by their CEO. The chip scans for elevated dopamine in the waking crowds but finds none. The back of your neck tingles, and the sensation slides down your spine. Just the sun on your black jacket, you conclude.
Round five. This club’s sign has been covered with graffiti so many times it’s illegible. You can’t remember if you’ve been here before, but that doesn’t matter. The Green District is all the same. Show a few extra bills and the bottlecap, and you get whatever’s on the menu. As you wait for the concoction to take effect, you look over the thinning crowd. Most people don’t make it past the sun’s rise, but you’re very interested in the ones that do. Couples with bloodshot eyes dance close to the stage, and one woman in little more than black straps covering her skin struts around the flock in search of her next meal. A bombshell of a redhead catches your fancy as she nurses a martini in the opposite corner of the room. Her hips and head sway in time to the music, and a tight black dress clings desperately to the edges of her thighs. How many women have you been with this evening, Cypher? You’ve lost count, and you’re ready to go again.
You’re whispering in her ear before the song strikes its next hook. She has a hand on your chest, and her chin rests on your shoulder. The chip’s busy reading the pleasure sensors of those around you, pumping the replicated sensations through your veins. Her skin smells saccharine sweet, and her voice is low and cool against your cheek.
A hand grips a fistful of your jacket, and the room spins. The fist connects with your chin before you can recognize what’s happening. Your lip splits against your teeth, and the taste of blood coats your tongue. Another blow to the eye and a third to the solar plexus sends you to the ground. Onlookers jump back from the scene, and the redhead steps forward, attempting to quell your furious assaulter.
Ah, her jealous lover, you think. He can’t hurt you. Not now.
You spit a bloody mass to the polished floor and stand, rolling your shoulders before gently pushing the young woman aside. A growling challenge escapes your throat, and, to the guy’s credit, he looks surprised. The wicked smile that wipes away his temporary shock says he’s more than happy to oblige your demand.
The punches and kicks you throw may feel as if you’ve packed Olympian strength behind them, but that’s the hubris of the implant talking. He deflects them easily, then catches your arm in both hands. His wrists twist, and the snap of your elbow supersedes the thrum of the background music. The red-haired girl’s inaudible screams pulse between the rhythmic adrenaline pounding in your ear.
You laugh as you stare at your grotesquely twisted forearm, and your attacker’s features contort with disgust. You feel nothing. This bastard isn’t worth your time. You take your leave. There are more clubs to go to and more women to find. Just walk it off. You have The Red Shoes, after all.
The enormous flatscreen in the center of the Green District drones on with further details of Nakamura’s passing. The news anchor says that the FBI has publicized their investigation into a mysterious chip, one that matches the description of an implant found nestled in the depths of Nakamura’s neural network. You peer at the screen out of the corner of one eye and see your face in stunningly high resolution. Your heart skips a beat, and your feet pause. When you blink, the concerned-looking news anchor has returned in your place.
Just ride the high, Cypher. That’s what you’re here for.
The patronage in the clubs noticeably thins out as the day progresses, though that hardly deters you. Even a handful of people can make for a good time. And as each partner runs out of stamina, you move on to the next. When the next club is empty, you call a local buddy and offer to bring the booze if he shares his stash. It’s like being in eternal freefall and never fearing the bottom.
You skip down the alleyway, six-pack in hand, your arm dangling limply at your side. Whistling a tune you know thanks to a series of repetitive cereal commercials, you follow the rhythm in your feet. Every red cent you spent on the implant was worth it. Every last one.
Unfortunately for you, there are others who agree.
The man whose honor you damaged earlier awaits you at the end of the alley, tapping the end of a baseball bat in one open palm. Two other broad-shouldered forms flank him, eyes narrowed and hands stuffed in pockets.
“You really think he has one?”
“I broke his arm. Look at him.”
“Dunno. Could just be tweaking.”
“I said I’d pay you, didn’t I?”
Even in your euphoric stupor, the muffled conversation chills you to the bones. You turn tail and run, and the goons are on your heels. You laugh with the fight or flight response crackling through your blood—just another high. Lay low for a while, and even this guy will forget your face.
The news anchor’s voice cradles the district as you turn onto the main road. “The Red Shoes, as the FBI has named it, elevates essential brain chemicals to fatal heights should the implant be removed. There are ten of its like in existence…”
The bat is hurled at the back of your knees, striking true and catching you off balance. Pain is non-existent, and you scramble to your feet—but it’s too late. The cronies are on you, snatching your hair and snapping your neck forward. The second one holds fast to your feet, bracing against furious kicks and flailing arms. Their ringleader approaches and catches your limp wrist, sliding a blade free from his pocket. Neural implants require a biometric scan of your fingerprints to unlock, and he has no problem acquiring one.
You scream and shriek. But you seem to have forgotten that this is the Green District. Those who hear you pretend not to or move to the other side of the street. No one wants the cops involved when it comes to this town.
It was a good time we shared together, Cypher. You exceeded my expectations. While every instance of The Red Shoes has a specific AI encoded to monitor and grow based on its user, I’m confident that I can take my next user’s experience to a new level.
Adrenaline rockets beneath your skin as you watch the life seep out of the eyes of another human being. You weren’t sure you could do it, that the money you forked out of pocket was worth it for this damn implant. But as the dopamine levels rise, you start to believe that it is.
Don’t you, Neon?
